Our clients had a 1950’s detached house located in the village of Fowlmere, near Cambridge.
The brief was to remodel the building to provide the layout and space for modern family living.
Our solution was to extend and fully remodel and refurbish the existing house.
A single storey extension to the front created a new entrance and boot room. To the side of the house a two storey extension provided additional living space on the ground floor, and at first floor the master bedroom and guest room with vaulted ceilings and ensuite. The ground floor has an open plan kitchen with adjacent dining room and living areas with glass doors opening out onto the garden. Elsewhere there is a utility room, boot room, tv room and study. The first floor has five bedrooms, a bathroom, shower room and en-suites. An air recovery system was installed along with under-floor heating.
The new extensions and existing house have been finished in the same timber cladding and white render, unifying and giving the appearance of a single building. The external space was landscaped to create two areas; a lower sitting area off the living room and a seating area directly out of the kitchen space.
